Endeavour House Writer in Residence Program Winner Announced

The Endeavour House Writer in Residence Program has announced its inaugural winner, historian Dr Naomi Parry.

The Writer in Residence Program, supported by Endeavour House and The Australia Institute, provides an AUD $2500 per week stipend for two weeks, office space and accommodation for an Australian writer to work from The Level at Endeavour House in Canberra.

Dr Naomi Parry's winning residency project, is a story about Aboriginal warrior Musquito a second generation post invasion narrative of a man displaced from his birth country to both Norfolk Island and Tasmania, his ongoing struggles with the new colonial order and his eventual career as a bushranger.

Endeavour House Writers in Residence Program Now Open for Applications

Australian writers are invited to apply for the 2017 Endeavour House Writer in Residence Program.

Endeavour House at 1 Franklin St Manuka, Canberra has recently been purchased as a new social impact investment with renovations already complete on the first level with the opening of “The Level” last month.

“The Level” at Endeavour House is new centre for civil society organisations and purposeful businesses in Canberra.

“The Endeavour House Writers in Residence program is a recognition of the value and importance of writers in our public discourse and an acknowledgement of the role writers and storytellers play in shaping our national identity,” said Ben Oquist, Executive Director of The Australia Institute.

A highly qualified steering committee (listed with bios below) will select one or more writers each year, to undertake the residency of a minimum of two weeks including modest accommodation, a room or desk at Endeavour House and a stipend of $2,500 per week.

“We value the massive contribution that writers make to the cultural life of our nation. This program is a perfect fit with the vision and aspirations we have for The Level at Endeavour House,” Oquist said.

The Australia Institute is a co-sponsor of the Writers in Residence program, along with Ethical Property Commercial Limited, the owners of Endeavour House.
